Playing with Memaw

Every Tuesday evening we take dinner and drive to Brett's Memaw's house. We talk about our week, chase the children around the circle of her small
house in which she's lived for more than 50 years, drink her sweet tea and eat dinner and pie, and frequently watch "America's Funniest Home Videos".

Last week Leah and Alaina came with us. Alaina is getting so big and is now sitting up and loving her solids! We greatly enjoyed having them along for the ride.

It was a beautiful spring day.

I'm thankful that Nate, Evelyn, Emma, and Alaina have the opportunity to know and love their great grandmother. I miss my own grandparents and fondly remember the times I had with them.

After my Nana died more than 15 years ago, my parents would pack us all up into our fifteen passenger van every Sunday afternoon, along with a simple lunch, and we would drive an hour to visit Grandaddy in his apartment. I remember longing for a Sunday nap instead of a long car ride with grumpy baby twins. Looking back, I'm not sure how my mom pulled all of that off. I also remember those times with fondness now that Grandaddy is gone. He would frequently inform us of how many years, weeks, days it had been since Nana had passed away. He missed her terribly. Because of my parents sacrifice of their restful Sunday afternoons, he was able to see the twins take some of their first steps and was a memorable part of our lives during those last years of his.

Any of my siblings have memories from those times that you'd like to share? :)
