growing chicks

Our chicks are two weeks old now and now look drastically different from the adorable little balls of fluff that they used to be. They have also discovered their wings. Last night I went out into the garage for a last check before heading to bed. To my horror, there were only 8 chickens in the box! One black chick was missing. I searched high and low, thankful that I was not uncovering any blood, feathers, or other signs of a violent end. Finally I found her perched on a black dog kennel (into which she blended uncannily well), a bit away from the box and several feet up in the air! I had no idea they were already so skilled at flying! Today they graduated to a bigger, taller box.

 I love how they are staring intently and curiously at the camera.
